Alexander Freiherr Szurmay von Uzsok:

Alexander Szurmay (in Hungarian Szurmay Sándor born in 1860) was an Infantry General and later Minister of War during the Great War. In 1915 his army group successfully defended the Uzhok pass against the attacking Russian troops. In 1917 he received the Military Order of Maria Theresa and became the baron of Uzsok.

The Figure:

Our figure is based on a picture of Alexander Szurmay during the Military Airplane Fair opening ceremony in Budapest 1917 . He wears a privately purchased field grey overcoat and field gray Officer's cap. The collar of the tunic had three silver stars (General der Infanterie) but only the top star is visible due to the collar of the overcoat. The belt was also probably privately purchased version late war style belt. The bayonet is an officer version of M1895 Mannlicher bayonet with portepee.

The Officer's Cap:

Officer's cap existed in different shapes and colours. As they were usually privately purchased many versions are possible. Short and tall, black, pike grey or field grey also. Pictures suggest Alexander Szurmay wore different caps during his service in 'svarzgelb'.
